Revolutionizing eCommerce: A Chargeback Management Solution

In 2023, the global economy witnessed 238 million chargebacks.

Ask ecommerce merchants to identify the pain points they are experiencing, and chances are they're going to say one word: chargebacks. In 2023, chargebacks caused projected losses of up to $117.46 billion globally. Often triggered by fraud, delivery issues, and billing discrepancies, chargebacks revealed a critical need for an effective resolution mechanism. The need for robust, automated chargeback management has never been greater.

Client's Challenge

Our client's advanced chargeback management solution is tailored for eCommerce environments and seamlessly integrates with platforms such as Shopify, PayPal, and WooCommerce. The system offers advanced features unique in the marketplace, but the website didn't quite reflect those functionalities. Our client site needed a redesign to improve the user experience with some new features, such as a modern interface and comprehensive dashboards. The goal was to introduce alerts and analytics that would allow merchants to instantly see, understand, and effectively manage chargebacks. At the same time, it was important to maintain transparency and continuity for existing users. The client wanted to keep the old version of the site running to ensure a seamless transition for their customers and avoid disrupting their ongoing business.

Clurgo's Solution

To address these challenges, we helped to develop an innovative application responsible for managing the entire chargeback process from initiation to resolution. With an event-driven architecture with EventBridge AWS, a scalable and resilient infrastructure was ensured. We redesigned the frontend using React and Redux to manage state more effectively, enhancing both the usability and aesthetics of the platform.

Clurgo team helped to create new features like a comprehensive dashboard for the merchants, providing an easy access to all the relevant data at one glance.

By transitioning from JavaScript to TypeScript, we improved security and reliability of the system and code maintenance process. Using TypeScript helps to reduce errors and maintain clean, self-documenting code—and that results in a coherently written system that is easier and cheaper to maintain. It also enforces the use of types and facilitates easier refactoring and code modifications. Moreover, throughout the development process, we maintained the old website's version behind feature flags. This allowed testing new functionalities thoroughly without impacting the live environment, and ensured that every element of the old version that was supposed to be carried over remained untouched. Thanks to this approach, any changes could be rolled back quickly and safely, providing continuity and reliability that the client needed.
